Free Lecture at h2u Wednesday

Orthopedic surgeon, Craig Mines, is scheduled to speak about joint replacement and injury prevention at the h2u (health, happiness, you) organization at Emory Eastside Medical Center on Wednesday. The lecture is free and will take place at 2pm at the Senior Center at 2350 Oak Road.

Emory Eastside Holds Health Screening June 19th

Emory Eastside will hold a health Screening on June 19th from 8-10am. Screenings will take place in classrooms 1 & 2 at 1700 Medical Way, Snellville. Screenings include fasting blood sugar for $3.80, cholesterol for $5 and total lipid profile - including cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL and cardiac risk factors for $17.80. Fasting must take place prior to screenings with nothing eaten and no more than a sip of water with medication past 8pm the previous day.

Free blood pressure checks and free stroke assessments and information will also be available. No appointment is necessary, but Social Security numbers and physician’s name, address and ZIP code should be provided. Participants must be at least 18. “The Changing Role of Grandparents”

Centerville Community Center (3025 Bethany Church Road) is hosting two sessions of “The Changing Role of Grandparents”. The first session is being held on Mondays through June 30th and the second session will be from August 18th to October 20th. The support group is facilitated by Charla Cebulski, who holds a master’s degree in counseling and rehabilitation. The class is limited to 20. It is a free lecture and will be held at 2pm on June 25th at the Snellville Senior Senior Center (2350 Oak Road). Dr. Mines is part of the medical staff for Emory Eastside and has a private practice in Snellville. 2008 Run The Reagan a Big Success

2,400 runners took part in this year’s Run the Reagan race - the biggest participation yet.

Run the ReaganAbout 800 runners competed for times on Saturday in the 10K part of the event. Their main goal was to move to the front of the mass of 55,000 runners expected to participate in the Peachtree Road Race six months from now. There were also Half-marathon, 5k, and 1 mile fun runs.

Snellville Days Coming Soon

Snellville Days is an annual two-day festival that takes place every spring. This year’s festival will take place May 3rd and 4th in T.W. Briscoe Park in Snellville, Georgia. The event attracts visitors from all over and is expected to draw the attraction of 20,000 people this year. This year’s theme is “A One-Time Event That’s Lasted 35 Years”.

This year’s events include the annual Snellville Days Parade on Saturday morning, more than 150 craft and food vendors, a Children’s Activity Area with games and small rides, a Dog and Disc Competition, continuous live entertainment, a car show on Saturday, a 5K Road Race, and a Saturday evening concert.
